About Abstract Expressionism

Most of my work is abstract.  I am often asked, "What were you thinking when you were painting that piece"  The truth of the matter is, I may not have been thinking anything, or, had anything particular in mind - just painting and going with the flow and enjoyment of creating something from nothing.  The skill involved with abstract art is being able to compose an array of colors that mesh and are consistent throughout the painting to bring it all together.  Composition and the combining of colors is very important and makes all the difference in the final outcome.   I think that abstract art is more interesting than any other form of art and more personable.  Why?  When one observes a painting of a person, landscape, structure, etc.  they can clearly see it for what it is, granted, the piece may be very exact and display incredible talent; however, does it evoke an emotion or speak to the viewer; and is there any mystery or  does it have individual meaning???  With abstract art, one can make it their own, by attributing meaning based on what they visualize;  this makes the painting personal.  The piece may have a title, which is based on the artist's interpretation of the completed piece, but the future owner can have something completely different in mind depending how the painting affects or speaks to them.

Abstract art is so free.  There are no boundaries or rules.  I have never been a fan of boundaries or rules.  I do, however, adhere to boundaries and rules, but not when it comes to my art.  I can do anything I want with my art!  I think the freedom is what drives me.  I am often inspired by other artists.  I've been very inspired by Christina Acosta, I've sat for hours thumbing through the pages of her book, ' Paint Happy'  I love her use of color and her subject matter is free and happy.  I especially like the way she overlaps and blends her paint and creates a lot of movement in her paintings. I consider much of her work to be abstract in nature and representational.

Abstract Expressionism displays a different side of an artist, it allows artists' to let their creativity flow without the worries of producing straight lines or perfect shapes. Abstract art allows artists' to take nothing and turn it into something that is visually pleasing and emotionally charged; this ability is a talent set apart from any other.

Thank you for taking the time to learn a little bit about abstract art. I hope that you appreciate and enjoy-in an exuberant way, my abstract expressions as well as other works of art that I create. Each piece is very dear and is created with love and passionate delight.
